Rex Orange County, a singer, charged with sexual assault

Singer Rex Orange County faces jury trial after being charged with sexually assaulting a woman. The singer-songwriter, whose real name is Alexander O'Connor from Surrey

He topped the charts with a performance at London's Southwark Crown Court on Monday. Mr O'Connor's third studio album, his album reached number one in the UK in March.

"Alex is shocked by the allegations he denies and looks forward to clearing his name in court, a statement issued on his behalf said. "Due to ongoing proceedings, he is unable to comment further."

The singer has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman six times in two days in the United Kingdom. In London's West End, a woman accused him assaulting her.

The following month, the singer released a message saying she was canceling tour dates in Europe, Australia and New Zealand

due to "unforeseen personal circumstances that forced her to spend time at home this year".

He pleaded not guilty to charges of intentionally touching a sexual nature without consent, and his trial was scheduled for January 3. He was released on unconditional bail pending trial.
