A study conducted by Ofcom and the Alan Turing Institute looked at abusive messages sent to Premier League players during the first five months of last season.

And surprisingly, Ireland and Newcastle defender Clark received more abuse per message than any other player in the league.

34.1 per cent of all messages directed at the 32 year old Magpie were found to be abusive.

A large portion of these messages came after Clark was sent off during a clash with Norwich last November.
