The England netball team moved into the semi-finals of the Commonwealth Games in front of a raucous crowd at the NEC Arena last night and will fight for a place in Sunday night’s gold-medal match in their semi-final against Australia tomorrow.
Their final group game here, against the world champions New Zealand, was a testy workout and a confidence-boosting 54-44 victory before the knockout stage.
Yet it was also a strange kind of triumph because the winners’ prize was to book themselves that semi-final date with Australia, who are the tournament favourites.
